First day of Kindergarten!

Well as many of you know Andrea asked me to help in her classroom for the first couple of weeks. She has a few students that only speak spanish and I am there to help translate. Well, let me tell you I kicked myself all day for not teaching my girls spanish.

The day started like this:
I woke up at 4:30 this morning because I was so excited for the first day of school. After tossing and turning I finally saw it was 6:15 and time to get out of bed! School starts at 7:55 AM (remember I'm NOT a morning person) but we had a lot of excited kindergartners waiting for the door to open and school to start. We also had a few crying parents. ( I remember being one of those parents 18 years ago).

The day was going great until I saw it was ONLY 10:00 am. It already seemed like I had been there the whole day. My feet were buring ( I know wrong thing to admit with a foot Doctor in the house) and I was ready for a nap when the teacher (Mrs. Hylton another thing to get used to hearing the kids call her) said it's time to go play at the playground. All I could think of was the heat wave we have been having. It was going to be hot! When we returned to the room it was time to water color ( big mistake) I was covered in all the colors from head to toes, that was when it hit me ,wait... I was suppose to be the translater and just then again I wished I had taught Andrea spanish!

So off to Lunch we go and I thought okay I can sit for a while and catch my next breath, when NO we had to show the little ones how to get there food thru the cafeteria lines. After lunch was over off to the playground they go (out in the heat again) till the bell rings.

The afternoon was looking better because the kids got a chance to put their heads down on the table to rest for 10 minutes but guess what ? The tables are made for little people. They were too low for me. Again I was out of luck now the only thing to look forward to was 2:25 when the bell would ring and it would be time to go home. With still 2 hours to go the little angels started to get home sick. One child would start to cry at one table and then the next child would start. I heard it all from I want to go home too I want my Mommy.

Kindergarten is a hard life. I took a long shower when I got home followed by a long nap. It's now 9:45 pm and my eyes fill like they weigh a ton. It's going to be a LONG two weeks but it's so worth it to make a difference in one little life. It is so awesome to watch Andrea teach these little angels. I just wish they would stay sweet and innocent.
Good night to all and pray for us during our first week of Kindergarten.
Love ya,
Liz
